I get this error too if i try to start a NXSession.

If I try to run an xterm and then start gnome-settings-daemon manually from NXClient or just putty with XForward, I get this:
Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'gnome-settings-daemon' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'XSyncBadCounter'
