Bug Description

Binary package hint: cairo-dock

Fully updated Karmic, installed cairo-dock, all worked just fine for a while. Played around in the config panel trying different options, etc. Then I added the weather applet, when I tried to configure it, the config panel and dock itself froze completely - 100% CPU and never came back, had to force quit.

Each time I restarted it, the same thing happened. Initially I thought it was the applet itself, until I tried configuring other things, and the same thing started happening everywhere. Seems fine until I try to use the configuration panel and try to go into an option.

I reinstalled cairo-dock, same behaviour. Rebooted, same... Then completely uninstalled it, purging config files too. Same behaviour but I noticed that it obviously hadn't removed the actual config files (presumably it just removes the package config files) as the dock was configured the same. So I uninstalled completely again, and manually deleted the .config/cairo-dock folder, then reinstalled. This time I could add the weather app and configure it no problem. But when I added Klipper and tried to copy some text from a web page it froze again. Now when I go into the config panel even after removing Klipper it freezes again whenever I try to enter any config pages.

Can someone please help?

Cairo-dock - 2.0.9-0ubuntu1

Hi,
please update to the latest version (2.1.3, available on our PPA on
Launchpad)
The version in Ubuntu repository is too much old and has not been updated
for a while.

Hello,
Yes, this is the only solution : our ppa !
In fact there was some bug due to other Karmic packages and some other in CD. Most of these bug have been fixed a long time ago but we can't update Cairo-Dock in Karmic, look at this bug #460001 :/

You can use our ppa: instructions here https://launchpad.net/~cairo-dock-team/+archive/ppa
But can you test the the latest release candidate in order to check if all these bugs have been fixed: https://launchpad.net/~cairo-dock-team/+archive/weekly (I think this is the first and the last RC for this version. So normally it's the next stable release except if a new bug is reported ;) )

Thanks

Thanks guys! Haven't tested extensively yet, but it seems much more stable now - why are Ubuntu not using the latest source from upstream?

Should be fixed in Lucid as well.
