Bug Description

I have a repository problem... see the error described below.

I need detailed explanation of how to fix it. How do I go to repository dialog to correct the problem??

Jim

E: Type 'n' is not known on line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntu-wine-ppa-karmic.list
E: The list of sources could not be read.
Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

It appears that you installed a version of wine from a ppa repository instead of the version that is available by default in Ubuntu's repositories. For some reason, there is a problem with either that repository or with the way the ppa repository line was entered.

Please go to System > Preferences > Software Sources. Go through the tabs and locate the wine-ppa line and disable it.

Then run...

sudo apt-get update

Did that fix it?

Tom, I have already deleted the ppa repository. I had sent an email to you
about it several days ago. I can duplicate the email I have sent if you
can't find it.

Here is the result of my running the sudo apt-get update:

im1717@jim1717-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get update
sudo: unable to resolve host jim1717-laptop
[sudo] password for jim1717:
E: Type 'n' is not known on line 1 in source list
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntu-wine-ppa-karmic.list
jim1717@jim1717-laptop:~$

It seems like I need more help on this. Give me details of how to correct
the error.

Jim

Hi Jim,

You need to do this:
[1] use gedit or any text editor to open the /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntu-wine-ppa-karmic.list
>sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntu-wine-ppa-karmic.list

[2] You probabily will see a letter 'n' in that file, remove the letter 'n', and save the file

[3] Done
