Bug Description

I'm trying to use print in inkscape .47 so I can cut from Craft Robo 5.
If I click on File Print or the short cut 'print' the program crashes and disappears, no error messages.
Windows XP SP3.
I can't print from version .46 either but can get the print box in .45 but that doesn't cut..
I get no pop up print box in .47 or .46.
I've downloaded it again and re installed and deleted Preferences and updated printer driver but nothing works.
Printer is Epson 4400.
Can anyone help please?

if you are trying to use a cutting plotter like Robomaster, then the recommended procedure is to use the Desktop Cutting Plotter output which will generate a .dxf file. You will need to specify that you want to use RoboMaster format for the output when it asks you. The Robomaster software should be able to read this output.

Thank you, but I want to cut from Inkscape through Craft Robo via the Print option. It's a much quicker and better cut. Everytime I click on Print everything disappears.

to the best of my knowledge, this has never been supported. Can you tell us what format of data the Craft Robo is expecting? The only cutting software I am familiar with is the RoboMaster software which expects to see either a .dxf file or a .gsd file. I know there are newer versions out which can accept .svg data directly. Is your device one of these? Or is it expecting a postscript format (.ps) ?
Could you give us the exact model number?

Add direct control of vinyl cutters to Inkscape

You can cut an SVG from inkscape on the craft Robo, mine is the 200 model. I can do it on another laptop but not on mine. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned this because the main problem is that when I click on Print everything disappears so I couldn't print if I wanted to. I don't get a box with all the printers in, to choose from.

on the laptop that works, does the Craft Robo show up as a printer on the list of printers?

on your machine that crashes, are you able to successfully print to any device, like a "normal" printer?

also, just a random thought, on the machine that crashes, could you try changing the default printer in the Control Panel to see if that helps?

Thank you for your suggestions.
On the laptop that works yes Craft Robo shows as one of the printers.
On the laptop that crashes I click on print and the program completely disappears so I can't print.
On the laptop that crashes I tried changing to different default printers and the program still crashes.

- did the printing problem exist before the Craft Robo software was installed?
- are you able to produce output using a 'normal' printer and the File->Export Bitmap menu item?
(I know that this does not in any way solve the Craft Robo problem, but what I am wondering is if the problem is perhaps not related to Craft Robo at all.)

I hadn't tried to print from inkscape before I got the Craft Robo.
I can save a file via 'export bitmap' but I don't know what you mean by
'produce output using a 'normal' printer and the File->Export Bitmap menu item'.

yes, that's what I meant, actually, just checking to see if you could save a file successfully. If Inkscape is crashing completely, it would probably be worthwhile to try to capture the exit messages using the program inkscapec.exe which is available from :
http://kaioa.com/node/63
This may give more detailed information on what is wrong. You will need to run this program from a DOS prompt in the same directory where Inkscape is.

Sorry that's a bit too much for me to do.
Thank you for all your help but I'm just going to have to admit defeat.
Just have to say I still love the program.
Thanks again.

Same here:

v0.48 crashes on Windows XP when printing

no matter whether using ctrl-p or the menu

no matter which printer is default (two different normal color-laser via IP/network)

I don't have a local printer to check that out

Possibly same issue as or related to bug #212921 “[Win32] Crashes, system freezes when trying to print on some Epson printers” (no solution known)
