I've also had this problem. It's with version 0.46 for windows. I'm running it on Windows XP.

To replicate the problem:

1. Open Inkscape
2. Print either from Files-->Print or from Print icon
3. Sometimes it hangs here other times press OK

My default printer is an Epson C88 printer.

Could you please provide the graphics that causes the problem... I suspect this can be a problem that is to do with the particular printer and its driver. Could you possibly try and report the driver version as well as looking if the same happens after with an upgraded driver.

I managed to freeze up with a blank graphic, as well as something
useful.

The driver version for the Epson C88 is: 5.51 dated 2006.

Hope this helps.

Was I a wee bit impatient to expect a blank page to be ejected within
a couple of minutes?

My workaround has been to export to pdf via Cairo and print from the
pdf.

I've found the Linux version of 0.46 to be a lot faster than the
Windows version. My windows machine has 2GB to the Linux' 512MB in
memory. They are the same CPU and motherboard. The Linux version also
prints (both blank and non-blank) pages in what I think is a
reasonable time span.

Thanks again.

well, the first try using icon i got pissed off waiting after about a
minute, there was a partially black page plus window was frozen. i restarted puter
and was doing something else and the printer started up and printed the page
i thought was history.
the next time i got partially black page , but i waited for a bout 40 or 50
seconds and the preview window came up, after another 30 or 40 seconds it
opened and i hit print and it printed.
i have not tried since, so here's hoping :-)

Are you still having this problem? Does an upgraded printer driver help?

Can you also try this? In the Print Dialogue, click on the 'Rendering' tab and click on bitmap, then print as usual. I would recommend leaving the dpi below 300.

Also, when you reply, do you mind not including previous text - it avoids confusion, and people's email addresses are being put up in clear text for spam bots to harvest.

Inkscape .47 freezes/crashes when trying to print

Inkscape 0.47-3 / Windows XP Pro SP2

As soon as the print spoolong begins :
- Inkscape is no more responding
- CPU usage reach right away 50/60% .
- RAM used is twice the size of the edition.
- No data is sent to the printer (size is not increasing in Print spooler : left blank)

The printing is spooling without ending.
If i delete the print job, Inkscape is still no more responding.
The only way to stop is to kill Inkscape process.

There was no problem in 0.46 for the same file (1MB svg).
Thank you in advance for your help.
Best regards,

Paoh

I Use Inkscape 0.47, Windows XP Home SP2, Epson Stylus DS4850 Plus.

When I open the print dialog (per toolbar or file menu) and press OK, inkscape crashes with its own error message (in German "Inkscape ist auf einen internen Fehler gestoßen und wird nun geschlossen"). Then the program freezes so that I can't click on the error message's OK button.

The error also occurs with empty documents.

Printing in version 0.45.1 works (but I don't like the result), but version 0.46 did not work, too.

I was really glad if this bug was fixed. Ask me further questions if necessary.

Kind regards,
Yogu

Cannot print from either File menu or toolbar icon. Dialog comes up sometimes, other times "internal error" crash. On the times when a dialog comes up, clicking the Print button doesn't print the document. The spooler hangs without receiving the document. One attempt actually corrupted the spooler and had to be repaired via the Microsoft site. Any attempt to print causes an "internal error" crash with any subsequent attempt.

The software is useless to me without printing ability and this should be fixed.

This bug also occurs worse when attempting to print to Acrobat Distiller to generate a PDF document - "internal error" is triggered, then the application crashes before even painting the error window. Task Manager is needed to shut the application down. It looks like I'll be using some other application for my project until Inkscape can print without crashing.

It looks like an issue with Epson's printer drivers - it looks like every person that reproduced this bug has an Epson printer.

If updating the driver doesn't help, I'm not sure if we can do anything about this. Contacting Epson about this bug might be the way to go.

There is a work around.

Save (don't print i.e. File->SaveAs) the drawing as a pdf and use
acrobat to print the drawing.

Can you try whether a nightly build solves the problem?
