Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

When opening a file, one possible option is "All Files (*.*)". Since the filter really is *.* rather than *, the open file dialogue will not find any files without a dot extension. That is to say it will find "file.txt" or "file." but not "file". This is confusing to the user and makes it seem that your files have disappeared.

The same problem exists in other file opening dialogues such as the ones in the Insert->Object functions that refer to files where the <All> filter is in fact *.*. Note in those dialogues there is no clue given that only *.* is being filtered. Replacing <All> with * gives the expected results.

Hi Paul, how do you know that *.* is being used? When I use open file (all files) then all files as well as directories are being displayed. (Tested on Ubuntu 9.10)

Hi Benard,

Sorry about the delay, but I wanted to check this out a bit myself
first on a few other computers. The bug seems to be confined to
openoffice.org-kde package, and should only affect kubuntu users. In
the plain ubuntu box I tried, it seems there is some other file dialog
integration package (openoffice.org-gtk?) that doesn't have this
problem, and works as you're describing it. If I remove
openoffice.org-kde, the crummy default openoffice file dialog is used
which does open "*.*" for <all> but yet finds filenames without "." in
them.

I have the same problem on my home computer which is running kubuntu
9.10 (x86-32) on much different hardware and much differently
configured.
I understand that openoffice.org-kde is relatively new and has a few
bugs in it. I'm not a programmer but I guess it'll have to massage
the filter data passed from openoffice as openoffice.org-gtk
apparently does.

I hope this helps in getting the bug filed correctly.

In can confirm this error: On Kubuntu "*.*" is being used. One can clear the command-line and specify *, but one has to repeat this option each time one wants to open "all files".
