Bug Description

Binary package hint: software-center

1) Using Ubuntu 9.10 after running update manager
2) Ubuntu Software Center 1.0.2
3) I expect after clicking the install button in an application's description that some sort of progress bar will appear and the application will install.
4) Nothing Happened. Clicking the button gives no feedback except changing the icon color briefly.

I thought of one other thing that may be causing the hang-up. This is a new install of Ubuntu because my previous system hard-disk failed. The home directory however I keep on a separate hard-drive, mounted as seen in the fstab. After installing Ubunut I added the mount of my original home directory to the fstab. Doesn't seem to explain why Synaptic still worked since isn't the Sowftware Center a front-end for that?

I had a reboot when software center was instaling something an then I get this error in Synaptic/apt-get/aptitude always I wan't install something:

"Error en el buse paquetes... 0%"

Yes, it's spanish :D. It's "Package bus error" or something. When I fix it, (here http://www.ubuntu-es.org/?q=node/125088) I can install anything in terminal, but not in Ubuntu Software Center. The button does't work. Why?

@allen:
What is the output if you run software-center in a terminal window and click "Install" ? Is there anything printed then? Anything in /var/log/syslog when this happen ?

I tried and there is an error. I also had a thought when doing it and apparently everything works fine if I call the software-center with sudo. The prompt for the admin password never pops up when I run the software-center from the system tray, so that makes sense.

This is certainly fixed in Lucid though can you please confirm if the issue is still there in Karmic?
