I used to have this same problem using Windows Live on Windows so this is more than likely from MSN's side rather than empathy's. Do you have this same problem when using empathy with other IM's?

se and application "aMSN" with the same MSN account, the problem does
not happen. I am convinced that the problem is really the "empathy".
