Bug Description

Ubuntu 9.04
OpenShot 0.9.54

I do screen captures at 1680x1050. Anyhow, after I've turned on my recording.. when I start up openshot, it will either immediately, or some time after, crash everything and send me directly to the splash login screen. It's done this to me twice,
I'm still going to talk about openshot to others because it is a good alternative, but I can't demo it because of this bug. You can see where I put my videos here

I'm on video 441, this would be 442. I have no ten minute limit on my videos, so when I demo a program I don't actually waste time editing the video, but this program would make editing easier. When I edit video I tend to use blender's video sequence editor.

What program are you using the record OpenShot? When I was using
gtk-record-my-desktop (or whatever it's called), I had to turn off the "Show
Border" option. Then it let me record just fine. You might try adjusting
some of the record options, and see if that will help. Good luck.

I also experience this on Ubuntu 9.10 when recording with gtk-recordMyDesktop.
I have tested with visual effects (compiz) enabled and disabled, which makes no difference.
With the default settings for gtk-recordMyDesktop, the xorg crash can be reliably reproduced on my machine when closing the OpenShot About dialog.
If I disable "Outline Capture Area On Screen" in gtk-recordMyDesktop, then this stops OpenShot from crashing when closing the About dialog, but it still crashes when I maximize OpenShot.

Be carefull with GTK-recordMyDesktop. I have read somewhere recently that There is a problem like this with the last version when you are recording with the Theora format.

To your understanding, does this include qt-recordmydesktop or further,
recordmydesktop too, or just the GTK front end?

I have now tested using recordmydesktop directly as follows:-

recordmydesktop -o /home/dan/out.ogv --fps 15 --channels 1 --freq 22050 --device pulse --v_quality 63 --s_quality 10 --workdir /tmp --no-frame

This also experiences the crashing.

Daniel,
Does it only crash when maximizing the OpenShot window? If so, can you just
resize the window to fit your screen, instead of maximizing it? Just
wondering if that would be a work around.

Thanks,
-Jonathan

I just quickly tested this on Ubuntu 10.04 and the issue seems to have gone. It would be good if someone else could also confirm this.

I'm an on Ubuntu 10.04 in 64 bits with Comiz activate, record done with the version 0.3.8-1 and i have done a record with the parameters by default without problem. I have same open two versions (development) of Openshot that i have recorded.
The only issue that i have is not clean at Openshot but use a ogg file is impossible, i have always this white window in the preview and the file have a size of ...................0 octects in the preferences of the file.
So i think that this bug is closed for me. Another test for somebody else ?
