timeout trying to moderate a mailing list with many messages

This looks like batching is needed. There are too many messages to retreive for launchpad to display. The behaviour is erratic because the number of messages is changing.

Fixing bug 498741 will indirectly address this issue. The timeout was caused to spam messages without content. I do not think the timeout will happen often if empty messages are not in the queue.

The fix does not clear your moderation queue. It prevents the problem from happening again. Is your moderation queue have dozens of empty messages in it. I still think this issue is fixed in the code. I cannot fix the existing data.

so, how can we make progress? remove the group, and re-create it? purge the messages by hand?

The messages are in the DB and I they are blob-like. There is no simple way to identify the problem messages once mailman put them there. I had to make repeated tries to load the launchpad-users moderation page, and I discarded all but 3 of the messages in 5 tries.
