Bug Description

for https://edge.launchpad.net/~openjdk/+mailinglist-moderate, about 90% of all mails sent to the list are spam mails, which should be discarded automatically. It becomes a real pain to use/moderate this list.

with 90% spam, I don't agree with the importance/severity

Yes, a very annoying problem. We have 99% spam on the freenx-list and most of it could be easily filtered out.

Triaged means the problem is in the launchapd. confirmed means the problems happens with launchapd. The problems is defintely with launchpad.

Sorry "Triaged" translates to something like "we have no time for that" in my language. (I would name that "systemic")

Please consider all mails with html-part and mails with empty plain-text-part as spam!

Low means that it will be fixed opportunistically because no one can commit to fixing it in the near future (eg a milestone). Triaged means that engineers know the problem is in the code. Here is a primer on triage that we use

Barry.

Now that I have subscribed the god of mailman, I favour discarding messages without text parts outright. I have not seen a single legitimate email that was missing a text part. I also note that 95% of the spam emails claim for be from the list. It is an obvious forgery. Spam assassin is nice, but I think we can employ simple rules to end this nuisance.

sorry, might be silly but why not considering SPF to avoid spoofing by spam servers ?

1. I am an engineer, not a SA.
2. Every example of spam shown to me on all the lists has no content.

Launchpad does not support non-text messages, Launchpad should not be asking anyone moderate an empty message. We want to drop all empty messages so that moderators can focus of messages with content. We expect the majority of the spam, if not all for most affected lists to disappear.

Curtis, I wasn't criticize you, if you understood it so I'm sorry, but I was just saying that the mechanism I quoted should do a part of this job, and complete is when there is spam with message content using the list address as the sender. You decision to drop all empty messages is the good one, because nothing useful could come from such a message.
