Bug Description

I'm no longer able to sync my Treo 680 after upgrading to Karmic. Specifically, when I connect either of my machines to my Treo with the USB cable, the handheld reboots, and continues to reboot till I disconnect the cable. It seems that the Visor module that once worked with Intrepid (8.10) broke with Jaunty and is still not working. I followed the instructions on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PalmDeviceSetup, and discovered through trial and error that it's not the rule entry that's causing the malfunction, it's the Visor module itself. I confirmed it on both my machines. Specifics:

- uname -a > Linux big-band 2.6.31-16-generic #52-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 3 22:00:22 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux
- cat /proc/version_signature > Ubuntu 2.6.31-16.52-generic

I never reported it after upgrading from Intrepid to Jaunty because I assumed it would have gotten fixed with the newest release. Also, I ran sudo lspci -vnvn, which spawned the browser window that I used to generate this report. The info that it gathered should be included. Please let me know what additional info you require.

Hi Chris,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 496665

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

I'm experiencing this same bug. Have been since I upgraded to Karmic. It's still an issue under Lucid, too (fresh install)

I'm using a Treo 650.

With the visor module loaded, I get the following in /var/log/messages when I press the hotsync button:

No one has asked for any additional information since I posted all the above files. Is there some more information needed? It's still an issue in Lucid, though people are probably slowly replacing their Treos. I wouldn't think three months of waiting while no one looks at an issue was a good reason to close it off.

I kind of have to agree with Myk with this in principle. It's still a problem for me as well. But with no syncing in Linux I switched to a Blackberry. The only reason I still used my Treo was that it synced in Linux, so it was either switch distros back to Fedora or dump the Treo. So now I'm left to running a WIndows VM just to sync my Blackberry.

Someone posted details to the bug, but since nobody got around to looking at it, the bug sat in an Incomplete state and then was automatically closed. Reopening as described in Jeremy's message.

This bug was used to justify the removal of libhid from Ubuntu, which seems weird.
