Bug Description

Binary package hint: kubuntu-firefox-installer

In Kubuntu 9.10 amd64 I noticed KPackageKit wanting to update ruby which I never installed. `aptitude why` indicates it's only there because of kubuntu-firefox-installer. Without getting into a religious war ;-) , 7 MB of yet another scripting language and libkorundum for an 85-line script seems if not bloat, an opportunity for disk space reduction.

I guess a "fix" would be to port /usr/bin/kubuntu-firefox-installer to Python, like the dozen or so other Qt/KDE scripted apps in /usr/bin in my install.

Thanks for all you do.

If someone provides a C++ port we would be more than happy to incorporate it, but for the time being I personally do not feel like rewriting the application.

This bug was fixed in the package kubuntu-firefox-installer - 10.04ubuntu4

---------------
kubuntu-firefox-installer (10.04ubuntu4) lucid; urgency=low

  [ Jonathan Thomas ]
  * Port to C++ (LP: #496049, #517312)
  * Switch packaging to dh short rules, using the kde addon

  [ Harald Sitter ]
  * Update description
  * Remove obsolete conflicts (were never used anyway)
  * Install firefox-gnome-support, otherwise there is no integration at all
  * Drop MPL (nothing licensed with MPL anymore)
  * Update copyright file to reflect C++ port and trademark logo
  * Bump standards version from 3.8.3 to 3.8.4
  * Update build-deps for C++ port
  * Add README.source for quilt
