FWIW, I installed HAL and tested it and it worked fine. I purged HAL and retested it, and it stopped working.

Assigning to desktop team. Cheese is pretty important for UNE and Desktop experience, we should get this fixed for Lucid

the git code has been ported to gudev, that will be fixed in the next tarball update
