Bug Description

I'm running the latest version of OpenShot on Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit, through the bleeding-edge PPA. For some reason, any attempt to export a video fails. Here's a sample of the terminal output:

Added /usr/share/openshot to system path
--------------------------------
   OpenShot (version 0.9.54)
--------------------------------
/usr/share/openshot/windows/SimpleGladeApp.py:340: GtkWarning: gtk_toolbar_set_icon_size: assertion `icon_size != GTK_ICON_SIZE_INVALID' failed
  return gtk.glade.XML(self.glade_path, root, domain)
A new frmMain has been created
on_mnuMakeMovie1_activate called with self.mnuMakeMovie
on_tlbMakeMovie_clicked called with self.mnuMakeMovie
on_cboProjectType_changed
on_cboExportTo_changed
on_cboProjectType_changed
on_cboProjectType_changed
on_btnExportVideo_clicked
Segmentation fault

...I noticed some of my option changes would cause messages like "on_cboProjectType_changed," etc., and some did not cause any messages in the terminal. Don't know if that's significant or not, but I thought I'd report it.

I'd love to be able to export soon, as I was working on a project that's important to me personally and is on a tight deadline (I know, what was I thinking, it's only version 0.9.54!)

Thanks in advance for any assistance, and if you need more info from me to help get to the bottom of the problem, I'm happy to oblige!

-Mark

Hello
Where have you take your ffmpeg version, repositorie ubuntu or medibuntu. If it's not medibuntu, installed it and try again. In the same way, could you put the results of this commands, please :
ffmpeg -formats
melt -query producers
sudo apt-cache policy ffmpeg
Thanks

Thank you, cenwen!

I do have the Medibuntu repository added as a source, but am not sure if that's where my ffmpeg comes from. After posting the initial bug report last night, I used other means to convert my .ogg export file to DVD, and in the process, inadvertently removed ffmpeg. ffmpeg was installed as I posted this bug, and I even used it manually later to convert my .ogg file to .mpg for DVD, but installing the package "DeVeDe" seemed to remove ffmpeg.

I re-installed ffmpeg (after re-installing some of its dependencies as reported by apt), and it removed DeVeDe. Unfortunately, OpenShot is still segfaulting on export, so my guess is I did something wrong!

Here's the terminal output you requested:

mjpatey@Slamchop:~$ ffmpeg -formats

Strange Mjpatey for severals reasons
First i have exactly the same system (9.10 on 64), ffmpeg and devede too and i have none with anyone. I have done a test with devede and openshot for my burner and it works fine. So i don't understand why ffmpeg have removed devede and certainly other softwares based on ffmpeg.
Second i have seen nothing wrong in the results of the commands, it looks same perfects.
Third i looks strange, for me, the number of the version of ffmeg.
Said me one thing more. Have you kdenlive installed and if yes which version the official 0.75 or the last 0.76.
If it's the last you must know that she comes with a "special " version of ffmpeg which desintalle the "official" version (the same version for openshot and devede). Try the experiance following if it's your case. Desinstall kdenlive 0.76 and reinstall openshot (or ffmpeg if it missed only ffmpeg) and try again and said me the result. After check with the tree commands that i have give you before and normaly it will be the same (the first and the second). For the third put it here and normaly the number must changed.
Thanks Olivier

Hum just to show you why i 'm more and more dubious about your ffmpeg version. Me i have that :
olivier@triton:~$ sudo apt-cache policy ffmpeg
ffmpeg:
  Installé : 4:0.5+svn20090706-2ubuntu2
  Candidat : 4:0.5+svn20090706-2ubuntu2
 Table de version :
 *** 4:0.5+svn20090706-2ubuntu2 0
        500 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
You can see the number and the date of the svn which are both differents. I'm more and more sure that your problem comes of your ffmpeg version.
Thanks Olivier

Hum i'm not you and what do you want to do with . But i believe that you have a project to realise so here what i recommande you. Desinstall the last kdenlive version (0.76)and his "dependencies". Desactive the repositorie corresponding. Reinstall openshot, kdenlive, the official works normaly (0.75), devede and all the softwares which have some problems with this ffmpeg version. The purpose is to have a fonctionnaly ffmpeg version with all (the major part)your software. The differencies between the 0.75 and the 0.76 are not so "important" than you can have a system working properly. So you can "play" (=work) with (and wtih kdenlive too) and create your project. After you could choose between only the last version kdenlive and the rest. I'm not sure that you haven't another problems with others softwares and this spécial ffmpeg version.
Thanks Olivier

Thank you, Olivier! I will try that. To answer your earlier question, I do
not have kdenlive installed, so that doesn't apply to me. But I'll
uninstall ffmpeg, devede and openshot, and then re-install them.
