Bug Description

This problem occurs in any application. Before I upgraded from dapper drake to hardy heron everything worked with no freezes at all. Therefore this is not a hardware problem. I runned the standard hardware test on my system and everthing worked just fine.

Now that I'm using hardy, the system freezes oftenly in any application. I can move the mouse pointer, but it does not respond to anything. The keyboard is also useless when it happens. (the R-E-I-S-U-B trick cannot be used) I can only use the reset button on my computer.

Anyone any idea??

Hi,

Could you run:

#strace -o /tmp/bug488679.trace -f -e trace=all -v openoffice.org

Please use as normal until hang and then attach the trace file to this bug. Can you also let us know what you were doing as exactly as possible when the hang occurred.

TIA
Khush

Hi,

(3rd attempt; the system hanged 2 times with only firefox open and just typing this message)

Do I need to start with the # character? And where can I find the trace file?

thanks in advance.

Hi mate,

No the '#' indicates your command line prompt so all you need to enter is:

strace -o ~/bug488679.trace -f -e trace=all -v openoffice.org

Once the hand occurs and you've recovered, you will find the file bug488679.trace in your trace directory. I changed the location this time as I believe /tmp gets cleared on reboot! Oops! :-)

Update: this has nothing to do with OOo. My problem is the same as in bug 204996.

I will continue there.
