Bug Description
NOTE: This only fixed Windows 7 booting up once. I rebooted after reporting this bug and the same problem still persisted. So not even this fixes the problem!
Binary package hint: grub2
This bug is one of the most annoying I've ever run into. There is a work around that I found on Ubuntu. However obviously nothing has been done to fix this problem; so I'm reporting it today so it can be fixed soon :)
This bug is ALWAYS repeatable. If you want to confirm it install Windows 7 (Vista will work) update grub and reboot. Windows will try to start and it'll fail.
NO THE GRUB2 WORKAROUND LISTED IN THE WIKI DOES NOT WORK! (https:/
The solution can be found in this thread:
http://
menuentry "Windows 7 (on /dev/sdb1)" {
insmod ntfs
set root=(hd1,1)
chainloader +1
}
(obviously has to be adjusted according to your Windows partition)
ALSO:
It IS possible to completely remove grub via Synaptic. Reinstall grub add that entry to 40_custom. Update-grub. Then reboot and choose the custom boot menu and Windows 7 will reboot fine. However it booting up fine only occurs one time.
