Bug Description

Binary package hint: samba

Release: 9.10

This problem has started after I upgraded my system from 9.04...

I can mount remote drives using CIFS/SMBFS and I can create/edit files on these mounted drives using gedit and Open office... nevertheless any other program cannot edit any files on these mounted drives. They can be opened but when you try to save you always get an error saying tha the files cannot be saved.

here is an example of one of the mounted drives on my fstab:

//192.168.0.223/duartem /media/dell_home cifs credentials=/root/.smbcredentials,iocharset=utf8,gid=1000,uid=1000,nounix,noserverino,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777 0 0

I have tried changing some of the options, changed the file_mode and dir_mode to 0770 and 0775.

Nothing seems to make it work...
I am pretty sure this config used to work fine in 9.04 so this is something related to the new version 9.10

Anyone can help? Still having the same problem...
The volumes can be mounted and edited in gedit and on the terminal but other editors such as eclipse say the files as read-only...

I do not think this is a low importance bug... I did not have these problems in 9.04 but only in 9.10 so something must have changed in the new version to make this happen.

Duarte,

Attach the file out.txt file when you run dmesg > out.txt from the command line.

Thanks

I can't reproduce that. What are those "other programs" that can't access that directory ?

Any other editors not included by default in the distribuition... Another editor I would really like to be able to save files is Diffuse. But every time I edit a file in the program it does not allow me to save the file. It allows me to create anew version of the file ("Save as") but if i try to save the file by modifing it directly it returns an error.

I can go that in gedit or nano or other programs.

Best regards

Not a bug in samba (or in CIFS in the kernel) then... maybe a bug in Diffuse and those other editors ? Maybe non-Gnome-friendly editors can't make use of the gvfs-smb layer ?
