Patrice, thank you for taking the time to report this bug. In the future, please only report once for the same bug. We can add other packages as needed to the report.

As for your microphone problem, it looks like most of your mixer settings are correct except for the "Capture" device which is set to 0. Please raise that, and that should fix your problem.

Firstly, you need a newer alsa-driver. You should try installing linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic and rebooting.

Secondly, please note that setting Capture to max is insufficient according to your amixer output:

Simple mixer control 'Front Mic Boost',0
  Capabilities: volume
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
Capture channels: Front Left - Front Right
  Limits: 0 - 3
  Front Left: 0 [0%]
  Front Right: 0 [0%]
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This is zeroed; please raise it.

Simple mixer control 'Capture',0
  Capabilities: cvolume cswitch
Capture channels: Front Left - Front Right
  Limits: Capture 0 - 46
  Front Left: Capture 0 [0%] [-17.00dB] [off]
  Front Right: Capture 0 [0%] [-17.00dB] [off]
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Notice this is muted *and* zeroed. You should set it 'cap' as well as raising it.

Ok.
linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic is already installed.

So here are problems :
1/ I can use alsamixer to set front mic to volume max <-> why can't do this under applet-mixer
2/ under alsamixer can't set front mic to capture. I just can set a progress bar named "capture"
3/ under applet mixer I can shout in front of my front mic but the progress level indicator don't moove.

BUT
using gnome recorder I can record myself.

So what ?
applet mixer should allow to select capture from digital input OR front mic (here just an "Audio interne Analog Stereo")
applet mixer should allow to set volume for Digital input AND for front mic separatly
applet mixer level indicator should moove when I shout <-> gnome record works ?!

Sorry, the previous question about l-b-m-a-k-g was asked before receiving
this bug notification e-mail.

Your points seem to be related to UI issues with the new
gnome-volume-control applet; please file a separate bug against gnome-media
for that.

For the purposes of this bug, the issue is resolved in
linux-backports-modules-2.6.31.

I am on a Dell mini 10 and am also affected by this bug in Karmic. In Jaunty, I could toggle internal/front mic using alsamixer and both worked properly, but in Karmic, the internal mic (the one located on the screen) doesn't work at all. The external mic, (the one you plug into the jack) works well, when the mic in alsamixer is set to 'front'.
