Bug Description
The 64 bit package doesn't seem to work on Ubuntu Karmic. It installs fine, but when you try to add media-applet to the panel, it will instantly crash. Every time.
Moreover, I tried to compile the tarball, and the build script seems to be broken too. "./waf configure --prefix=/usr" works fine after installing the relevant *-dev packages, but then "./waf" immediately says "compilation finished succesfully", regardless of the fact that it didn't compile anything and there are no C files or binary files anywhere. Finally, "sudo ./waf install" immediately says "compilation and installation finished successfully", but it didn't actually install anything anywhere.
Is there a way to install media-applet 4.0 on amd64/Karmic Koala? What is the matter with the build script? I have zero knowledge of Python, otherwise I would look at it myself.
Okay, I got it to compile on Karmic, and it works like a charm. The compilation requires the intltools package, it won't compile if only intltools-debian is installed. The "./waf configure" command notices that intltools is missing, but it doesn't print an error; instead it ends with a "configuration successful" message. The "./waf" command is a non-starter, however - there's a check specifically for intltools. Moreover, even though it won't compile anything, it will print out a "compilation successful" message; and the "./waf install" command will say "compilation and installation successful" message - even though it did nothing.
Seriously, this should be fixed. It confused the hell out of me, and I had to inspect the python script to find out what's wrong. This is especially bad since there are no precompiled packages available that work on 64-bit Karmic Koala.
By the way, media-applet rocks. I absolutely love it. Keep up the good work. Plus, I like Vala.
