Thanks for your report.

The error is caused by
=====
OpenOffice.org running!

OpenOffice.org is running right now. A running OpenOffice.org makes extension
(de-)registration not possible and it causes problems with (de-)registering
components.

Please close OpenOffice.org (including an eventually running Quickstarter).

Is it still an issue ?

As I indicated in another email I sent to you, before I read all of your comment above (sorry!), I have restarted my computer, gone immediately to synaptic, looked up the broken package and attempted to upgrade it, and it still tells me OO is running, although I have done nothing but reboot and go directly to synaptic.

I can identify nothing in the system monitor to tell me OO or any of its parts are running, so how do I fix this?

I checked through the options for OO, and Quickstarter is installed but not enabled, so I do not have a Quickstarter icon on my taskbar, but synaptic continues to tell me to close OO including quickstarter before updating this package.

Dear Jean-Baptiste,

I went to the but report you mentioned, read through and methodically
went through each suggested corrective measure. Nothing changed.
Finally, I got to the suggestion to use "killall soffice.bin" which I
did with sudo, and it took six more tries, but then it finally went
through, ran the install of the final three programs which were
pdfimport, emailmerge and filter-binfilter (which was the one giving the
error message each time, that OO was running) and everything installed,
updated and terminated normally. Synaptic now reports no broken
packages or other errors.

Thank you for the assistance. I will go back and find my bug report and
comment with the "fix".

Tom
