Bug Description
Binary package hint: gnome-control-
I am unable to turn on both multiple-monitors and desktop effects at the same time. I can either have desktop effects turned on while having my two monitors mirrored, or I can have an extended desktop across the two monitors but be unable to turn on desktop effects. If I turn on desktop effects and then change my monitor configuration from mirrored to side-by-side, the display is messed up until I restore my previous settings.
Graphics card (from lspci): VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc R430 [Radeon X800 XL] (PCIe)
Driver: radeon
Monitors: Both Samsung 19" SyncMaster 931B, optimal resolution 1280x1024

That's because 1280x2 is 2560 which is larger than 2048, the maximum texture size your video card supports. Technically it should be possible for your video driver to work around this limitation but it needs changes in the X server as well (the "shatter" extension).
