Bug Description

Dell Latitude x300

Suspend no longer works pretty much most of the time. On resume the power light stops it's glow/fade effect and the disk light comes on but the screen stays black.

Also, this will *always* be triggered if while plugged in to AC power, I give the "suspend" command and *don't wait for the power light to start it's glow/fade effect before closing the lid.

Many other reports on other architectures. Adding or removing the docking station during suspend will also present this problem.

This system was upgraded from 9.04 and before the update occurred, a crashed screen effect requiring a hard reset started to appear. Previously the suspend/resume worked perfectly.

I've not had so many hard boots in years on any platform before the last two months.

ProblemType: KernelOops
Annotation: This occured during a previous suspend and prevented it from resuming properly. The resume processing hung very near the end and will have appeared to have completed normally.

Hi Jim,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 474380

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Greetings:

Interesting co-incidence.. I have just started the download of Ubuntu
10.04 Daily build 2010.04.19 live to test this.

Around Saturday the 17th my 10.04 Beta partition encountered an
upgrade to the Linux kernel 2.6.21.21 and since then have been having
to run in safe graphics mode. However, though initially flawed at
restoring the graphic map, closing the lid is now no longer dangerous
on my laptop. A few more updates and the restore now works perfectly.
However I'm having to run in safe mode and don't know if Compiz works.

I've reported the bug but just to make sure, I'm downloading the April
19th daily and after booting live, will install it to my test
partition.

Another issue which was fixed was the dock. I can now attach and
detach my dock without having to shut down the computer. Nice.

I'll get the full info to you folks on Saturday, but as for as this
bug, it tentatively looks like it was finally fixed. I'll know for
sure if it works outside of safe mode.

Thanks for the follow up Jeremy.

Sorry. I can't determine the state of the bug yet. The Live CD also fails.

Am having to run 10.04 in safe graphics mode. In this mode, the bug
has been fixed but I don't know if it's really fixed until I get
Compiz working again.

Here is the bug that's stopping me.
