Bug Description

I have a Logitech mx5500 Revolution mouse and keyboard set. Since using Karmic, they have worked flawlessly (something I haven't seen with the Revolution in Ubuntu). The typical behavior of this mouse is that its wheel is "clicky" until the user spins fast enough that the mechanism inside frees the wheel, allowing it to spin freely. On every start, this is the behavior I get, however-

When the mouse is left along long enough (or power cycled via a switch), it reverts to the 'broken' behavior I have seen before with Ubuntu. Instead of spinning the wheel to make it enter free spin, a simple "middle click" does it and middle click functionality is broken (ie, not registered at all).

Okay, this is my bad. This isn't a bug.

It seems that when the computer is in Windows, the Logitech driver gives some instruction to the mouse on how to behave. When it shuts off (or sleeps), this information is discarded and it goes back to its "driverless" mode.

Hi DonSlice,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 473810

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Using revoco, I configured the mouse (an MX Revolution) behaviour only ONCE.
Even with the mouse off, those settings seem to persist, so it would seem that revoco alters the "driverless" mode, making my favorite mode the DEFAULT one.

At least it seems so, since even powering up the mouse with the receptor unplugged retains it's behavious.
