Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution-mapi

evolution-mapi 0.28.1 was released 2009-10-19

http://git.gnome.org/cgit/evolution-mapi/

Can this update please be included in Karmic? The one in the archives now crashes when you retrieve an email which makes it pretty useless.

Upgrading to evolution-mapi 0.28.1 will almost certainly fix the various problems reported in 404217 as well. Big, huge thumbs-up from me!

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/404217

Debian already has a deb for 0.28.1, though it will need some repackaging to work with 9.10:

You can use packages from Keith Buel PPA ( https://launchpad.net/~kbuel/+archive/ppa ). In my case, his package fixes all my issues and evolution-mapi works now like a charm. Thanks to him

When can we expect this to be rolled out? (since it has confirmed status?)

I can confirm that Keiths PPA package works like a charm.... for reading email. But as soon as I try to access my calendar, it all goes haywire. My network traffic and disk i/o skyrocket and Evolution just hangs.

This includes meeting requests which Evolution say: email claims to contain a calendar but its not a valid icalendar.

Note: It turned out that it was the evolution-data-server-2.28 process which was causing the network traffic, disk io and cpu to go haywire...

I decided to let it run its course and after about ten minutes it calmed down again... now my calendar seems to be working without significant problems.

SRU ack. I reviewed the diff, and it looks fine (most of it is just autoconf noise anyway, and the code changes look sane).

Please upload to lucid and karmic-proposed. Thanks!

Martin,

I wanted to upload latest upstream version of evolution-mapi (0.29.4) to lucid. But it fails to compile because it needs evolution-data-server >= 2.29.4 which lucid doesn't have yet.
So I will just upload this micro-release 0.28.2 to karmic proposed.

Accepted into karmic-proposed, the package will build now and be available in a few hours. Please test and give feedback here. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

@ThomasNovin

I had already tried that, and Evolution crashed prompty on account setup: Something that does not apparently happen to others. It also crashes in such a way that no debugging is triggered to submit.

I had hoped that it was just a PPA thing, but the GA version acts exactly the same.

Tried fresh account setup on fresh userid even. I assume at this point that I have a package on that is not compatible with evo-mapi, but I have no idea what it is.

I also have a 10.04 box, and so am waiting for the package to appear there to see what happens: I think I am probably facing a very careful rebuild of the 9.10 system to get this working now though.
