Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

I'm trying to connect to my MSN account and I can't from empathy. I tried with another computer running ubuntu karmic and with another account getting the same results.

Tested in: ubuntu karmic, 32 and 64 bits.

When I create a new MSN account, empathy keep trying to connect and my contacts never appears in the list.

Trying with another client proogram I can connect without problems.

Thank you for your bug report. The issue is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug the to the people writting the software (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME)

I am also getting this error, however I'm getting it in Lucid. My error is a little different as it is saying "Offline - Account Disabled"

Logged into Hotmail to verify that the is disabled and lo and behold, the account is very much active! ;) Checking older bugs and it appeared that there was a similar bug in Hardy's version and apparently it was related to pymsn... wondering if it could hold true for this version as well?

Please let me know what's going on and if there are any fixes that I missed in the bug previous bug reports.

Matt

I had this issue, but running Empathy and Telepathy Butterfly in debugging modes -- which didn't output anything useful at all -- once solved this issue for me, strangely.

I am also seeing this issue when attempting to use empathy to connect to MSN using a non Microsoft issued ID (in my case <email address hidden>) - the connection only reports "Connecting" and never returns. On the same workstation connections to MSN via pidgin work without issue.

Please raise the Importance of this as it's impacting a number of users that are posting on boards, unaware how to report a defect.

It looks so,
Before upgrading from 9.1 I didn´t have problems.
After upgrading I wasn´t able to connect.
Altough empathy shows it is connected the information displayed is not correct and others won´t see me online.
Pidgin doesn´t have this problem so it looks like empathy is having an issue.

Can't connect to msn, with empathy 2.30.2 on lucid 32 & 64 bit versions
Connecting with 'pidgin' and 'amsn' to the same port works without any problems.

I am also getting this problem. Empathy has been working fine for months now (since I first installed Ubuntu 10.04 x64 on this laptop) and now all of a sudden it continuously tries to connect to msn and never returns any error, displays any contacts or connects.

The last lines in my log file for butterfly are

papyon/papyon.gnet.http-ERROR: 12/07/11 08:31:48.483338: Received error code 500 (Internal Server Error) from contacts.msn.com:80
