I have the same problem, an i don't thin that is a duplicate of bug #424965.
Also I am having the same problem in two different computers where i upgraded from a 9.04(Wubi installed).
The lines that i get, from my desktop computer (Intel core 2 ), when i shut down is:

* Asking all remaining processes to terminate...
* Deconfiguring network interfaces...
* Deactivating swap...

Hey man,
     I am a total newbie to Linux...I had that once before the 29th-
October. I was trying out the "beta version" U-9.10. I freaked wondering
what I had done wrong. Quick solution was to pop the old 9.04 CD in the
drive. May do that again should I not find sound solution for "Skype".

All I can say is good luck. Apologies for not being of more help.
