Bug Description

on a fresh karmic I try:

$ sudo aptitude install root-system
...
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  root-plugin-krb5: Depends: libkrb53 (>= 1.6.dfsg.2) which is a virtual package.
  root-system-xrootd: Depends: libkrb53 (>= 1.6.dfsg.2) which is a virtual package.
  root-system-proofd: Depends: libkrb53 (>= 1.6.dfsg.2) which is a virtual package.
  root-system-rootd: Depends: libkrb53 (>= 1.6.dfsg.2) which is a virtual package.
  libroot5.18: Depends: libkrb53 (>= 1.6.dfsg.2) which is a virtual package.
...

So somehow the transition libkrb53 -> libkrb5-3 left a few universe packages to die by the wayside while the caravane moved on

Any hope for a fix, or any hints how to get an affected package like root-system back to live?

This is a bug in the packages that still depend on libkrb53, not krb5 itself. root-system is one of only two that still have this problem.

Changed in krb5 (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid

Hi,

check

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/root-system/+bug/462059

for a workaround with creating the missing libkrb53 yourself. It worked
well for me with root-system.

Cheers, Stefan
