Using adium themes causes empathy to auto-scroll when a new message is received. This makes using things like irc almost impossible.

as in lucid empathy will be using adium style theme so marking this invalid as if any bug will appear that time it will sure be fixed

Actually this bug is still there and it is very annoying. It is useful to read the following upstream bug report:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=586133
where the same issue with other themes was fixed.

Why should the bug status be set to invalid and not to fixed?

because the bug was fixed in the theme and not empathy
