Bug Description

The tool usb-creator.exe included on Ubuntu 9.10 RC CDs does not allow me to fill my USB key from a *.iso that is on my hard drive.

Howto recreate:
1. start usb-creator.exe from CD (or from elsewhere, doesn't matter)
2. click on "other" button
3. select your .iso, click OK

Problem appears here:
The ISO will not show up in the "source disc image or CD" box, so you cannot select it as a source.

My expectations:
I would expect it to turn up after "opening" it, otherwise I cannot select it in the main USB Creator Dialog.

My configuration:
Windows 7 (same problem appears for admin or non-admin user)
Ubuntu 9.10 RC ISO image (Netbook Remix)

I have also seen this bug with the UNR 9.10 release version, on both Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and Windows XP Home 32-bit.

When I booted into Ubuntu 9.04 desktop and ran the usb-creator there with the same iso, it worked fine.

Changing package to upstream usb-creator as this does not affect usb-creator on Ubuntu.

Changed in usb-creator (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid
Changed in usb-creator:

Is there any workaround - any other way to create a bootable USB image?

I think I did something along the lines of

1. boot into Live system from the cd
2. use usb-creator for linux from there

(or: use PC with an installed ubuntu, do apt-get install usb-creator
and use that together with the .iso or a CD)

Both things are not very convenient if you have a windows machine
without CD drive (like a netbook, for example).
