The recommends for ubuntu-
"libavcodec52, libavformat52, libpostproc51, libswscale0"
If the 'extra' versions of these files are installed prior to installing the restricted-extras' package then they are removed, along with anything depending on them ( devede is an ex.
While there is nothing preventing one from re-installing the 'extra' libs this is confusing to many users and is quite the opposite of what they expected to achieve.

Well, if this isn't going to be changed in karmic then how about not having it happen in lucid where the package is currently the same.
Or an explanation as to why it shouldn't or doesn't matter
