Bug Description

Quanta has a message that Launchpad exports using a broken format:

"href=\"
""mailto:<email address hidden>?subject=Quanta%20sponsorship%20inquiry\">sequit"
"<email address hidden></a>"

That should be:

"href=\""
"mailto:<email address hidden>?subject=Quanta%20sponsorship%20inquiry\">sequit"
"<email address hidden></a>"

But seems like our export wraps on the escaped quotes instead of the actually ending quote.

The full error log is:

 ./data/de/LC_MESSAGES/quanta.po:2068: end-of-line within string
 ./data/de/LC_MESSAGES/quanta.po:2004: missing `msgstr' section
 ./data/de/LC_MESSAGES/quanta.po:2068:9: parse error
 ./data/de/LC_MESSAGES/quanta.po:2068: keyword "sequitur" unknown
 ./data/de/LC_MESSAGES/quanta.po:6387: end-of-line within string
 ./data/de/LC_MESSAGES/quanta.po:6361: missing `msgstr' section
 ./data/de/LC_MESSAGES/quanta.po:6387:9: parse error
 ./data/de/LC_MESSAGES/quanta.po:6387: keyword "sequitur" unknown

Although the others seems to be a side error of this one.

Stephan Gitz (ubuntu-systremix) wrote : Re: Quanta with wrong language (English)

I can confirm this for dapper.

It looks like the file "usr/share/locale-langpack/de/LC_MESSAGES/quanta.mo" from the Package language-pack-kde-de-base is missing.

"apt-file list language-pack-kde-de-base | grep quanta" tells you that it is there, but its not. As a workaround you can get the quanta.mo from the Debian-Package: http://packages.debian.org/testing/kde/kde-i18n-de

extract the downloaded file with:
dpkg -x kde-i18n-de_3.5.2-1_all.deb kde-i18n-de

and than copy it in the right place:
cp kde-i18n-de/usr/share/locale/de/LC_MESSAGES/quanta.mo /usr/share/locale-langpack/de/LC_MESSAGES/

I can confirm this issue on Feisty too.

The problem seems to be that the translation file quanta.mo is missing from the language-pack-kde-xy-base.

Carlos, any progess on this issue? Do you need some more information?

Yeah, seems like the exported .po files are broken so we cannot compile them as .mo files.

We are still investigating how's that we get broken .po files...

Danilo, please, could you take a look?

Jannick, you should be able to test this tomorrow on edge.launchpad.net. It won't be rolled out until late in the month, unless we start considering it critical.

And we'll start considering it critical if you have a lot of problems because of that, so just list all the files you've got a problem with, and we'll see what we can do.

Carlos Perelló Marín (carlos) wrote :

That's not completely true. This fix requires that we run a cron script and we cannot do that in edge.launchpad.net because it uses the same database as production servers and thus, it would conflict with the production cron script.

edge.launchpad.net is only useful to test web UI fixes, async process are not executed.

Unless we can justify this as a critical bug, this will be applied to production at the end of this month.

This affect the french translation in Kubuntu feisty too.

To solve this problem, I found this workarround in a french blog (while waiting the official release to correct it)
source (french):
http://www.souslestoits.net/blog/index.php/post/2006/11/03/76-quanta-plus-de-nouveau-en-francais
The blog says a file is missing in the kde-i18n-fr package

solution given:
install the normal translation package
sudo apt-get install kde-i18n-fr

then
get this package directly from kubuntu edgy
wget http://kubuntu.org/packages/kde-356/pool-edgy/kde-i18n/kde-i18n-fr_3.5.6-0ubuntu1~edgy1_all.deb

uncompress it
dpkg -x kde-i18n-fr_3.5.6-0ubuntu1~edgy1_all.deb kde-i18n-fr

and copy it to the right place
sudo cp kde-i18n-fr/usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES/quanta.mo /usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES/

note: the package kde-i18n-fr is not included when installing quanta, so I think the best solution is to correct the quanta package AND the kde-i18n-XX package

Hope this help

This is fixed in Launchpad Translations (I checked again). If it's a packaging problem, please open a new Ubuntu bug about it.

lamyseba, what you need is to install the language pack for KDE: language-pack-kde-fr

Nothing needs to be changed in the quanta packages.

Carlos Perello Marin: language-pack-kde-fr was already installed when I Installed quantaplus from the official repository. I am always up to date with the last packages in kubuntu 7.04-feisty (auto update). Still, quanta appeared in english the firstime I launched it and I had to do the workaround I wrote in my last message.
I will try to post a ubuntu bug, as suggested by aahnpo werah.

Ok, so that just means that base language packs for feisty needs to be refreshed now that the bug is fixed. Please, file a bug against language-pack-kde-fr-base (or the language you are having problems with). Explain that it lacks quanta translations due to this bug.

The solution of lamyseba doesn't work to translate kdevelop 3.5. I have get the deb package of edgy:
wget http://kubuntu.org/packages/kde-356/pool-edgy/kde-i18n/kde-i18n-fr_3.5.6-0ubuntu1~edgy1_all.deb

I uncompress it:
dpkg -x kde-i18n-fr_3.5.6-0ubuntu1~edgy1_all.deb kde-i18n-fr

And I get the following message:
dpkg-deb: unexpected end of file in number of version in kde-i18n-fr_3.5.6-0ubuntu1~edgy1_all.deb

Is this a corrupt package?
