Bug Description

Binary package hint: cairo-dock

I want to use cairo-dock solely as a launcher, while still making use of my regular Ubuntu taskbar.

When I disable the taskbar functionality (even though the module is forced-on), when I minimize an application, it minimizes to cairo dock.

When I have compiz window previews enabled, they also don't show up when I hover over my taskbar, but they do when I hover over cairo-dock.

Hello,

Cairo-Dock is mostly a mix between launchers and a taskbar :) . But did you try to disable the first parameter of the 'Taskbar' module in the config panel?

PS: don't hesitate to use our stable repository ;) ( http://www.cairo-dock.org/ww_page.php )

This isn't entirely true. Cairo-dock is *customizable* to be a launcher and a taskbar.

Personally, I prefer to keep the two separate, but as a launcher it does well.

If you read my original report, yes I did disable it. It still grabs all minimize events.

this is not a bug in Cairo-Dock, but the normal behaviour. just restart your
gnome-panel and it will work correctly ;-)
and by the way, you can separate the 2 entity in Cairo-Dock, just don't use
the option "mix applis and launchers"
you can even move your launchers to another main dock, and place it on
another side of your screen to have 2 docks : 1 for launchers, one for the
taskbar.

You have totally missed the point of this bug and have closed it prematurely in typical QA incompetence fashion.

If my system does not start the bar and cairo dock up in the right order, I will constantly have to remove and readd my task bar.

You haven't put any thought to the problem I put forward or viewed it as an opportunity to accommodate a potential use case.

I find your handling of this issue very disappointing.

well I'm sorry but you didn't reply for 3 weeks so I thought the problem was over.
If you deactivate the taskbar in the Dock, without restarting your gnome-panel, windows will of course continue to minimize to the dock, because windows are bound to a position on the screen, and not to the panel or the dock.

Morevoer, it's strictly impossible for the dock to set the position of the minimized window if it does not act as a taskbar (you need at least the X ID of the window to do that, and the dock doesn't record them if the taskbar is not active)

So I maintain this bug invalid, except if you can provide more details and a way to reproduce it (because I just don't have this issue on my PC).
