Bug Description

I can't get any sound using Openshot. Tried different audio or video files, it is not codec dependent. Seems like export works fine, it's only previewing a file or a project that is affected by this bug.

System using Ubutnu 9.04, Openshot installed from PPA, version 0.9.52

Hello Nikomiko
Check if you have installed the package name libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio on your system with synaptic and if it's not the case do it and tried again.
I hope that'will be good.

Correction....

I did NOT use apt-get.
Going back over the step, I loaded the .debs.

I just tried again... no joy.

The version listed above are still the same.

Sorry for any confusion.

Hi i having the same configuration on my old HP (it was a 2.4 ghz ). Sorry i'm in late i wasn't finding the adress of the2sd ppa
I have perhaps a solution. I'm thinking that the probleme is perhaps ffmpeg. So we will tried something if you want to do that.
1-desintall openshot-ffmpeg and openshot-x264 and add this depot. (becarefull if you have this ppa : deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/c-korn/vlc/ubuntu jaunty main it's impossible). after install this ppa :
https://launchpad.net/~freshmedia/+archive/ppa import the keys and install x264 and ffmpeg after close this depot. And tried again.
If it's not good after that's. We could tried another thing. Desintall openshot-mlt and install this ppa :
https://launchpad.net/~intuitivenipple/+archive/video-editors

Oh i have forgotten somethin at the begin. Before desinstall launch openshot in a console he is open and tried to reproduce the bug and post, please what's happen in the console.

Thanks Olivier

For the 2sd solutions of course you install mlt of course after to have desinstall openshot-mlt.

I tried to run openshot from the console, but still have the same problem.
Next, I removed openshot-ffmpeg and openshot-x264.
I was able to import the keys ok.

But I don't know how to reinstall the files. I'm fairly new with linux.

When I look for the files at:
https://launchpad.net/~freshmedia/+archive/ppa/+packages
I click on ffmpeg - 3:0.svn20090807-0.5~ppa1~jaunty1
I see many .deb files.
Do I need to install all the i386 jaunty debs?
I think there are about 15 files.

I also checked the synaptic package manager, it cannot find them,
however it shows 'Launchpad PPA for Freshmedia' under the authentication tab.
Do I need to import the key here? If so, where is it?

Or do I need to do something else?
I'm lost at this point.

Sorry for my ignorance.

Update...

I read more carefully and was able to get files x264 and ffmpeg from ppa.
(Know I know how do to this!)
But, still no sound.

So I wanted to also remove open-mlt, as you suggested.
However openshot itself would be removed, and the ppa
you suggested would load openshot v 0.9.35

Thank You

Hello vger7

"Sorry for my ignorance."

Don't worry we all went throught the.

Normal. It's not important because now you download the last version (deb version) on launchpad. Install the version of mlt (from the ppa) here: https://launchpad.net/~intuitivenipple/+archive/video-editors
After intall the new dev version 0.9.52 by cliking on or in console with this command :
sudo dpkg -i openshot.deb
You will have a message saying that it a new version and a old version existing in your depot. It's not important you pass and you install. After tried it and enjoy.

Thanks Olivier

Hi with a ppa you have two means to have the packet. One you can use the ppa by the way normal " sudo apt-get install thesoftwaethatiwant" and yoou download the binaire and after sudo dpkg -i thesoftwarethatiwant.deb.
You can use this 2 means. The first is better because you are not obliged to look if there is a new version. That's all.

Oliver,
     I uninstalled open-mlt and openshot.
I reinstalled from ppa, now have 0.9.35
I tried to use "sudo dpkg -i openshot.deb" does not work.

dpkg: error processing openshot.deb (--install):
cannot access archive: No such file or directory
Errors were encountered while processing:
 openshot.deb

i tried:
sudo apt-get install openshot
console said:
openshot is already the newest version.

But now openshot does not work at all.
If I try to run from command line I get
Segmentation fault

I have a mess.
Mabye I should delete openshot and try again without ppa, then wait for bug fix?

For the version 0.9.35 it's normal because you have done in console
sudo apt-get install openshot. In this case, and it's not only for openshot, when you have a old version in a ppa or in a depot take the last deb on the website 's author. When you install this deb you have always a message that tell you that you have an old version in the depot,....It's not important and you can nstall it. For you it's normal and download here : https://launchpad.net/openshot
On your right take the version openshot.deb, download and after in console (or in clicking on and using gebi) sudo dpkg -i openshot.deb. Installed it and try again. And normaly you have the last version 0.9.52 and i hope that will be good. (normaly).
For the moment i don't think that you should delete Openshot and try again without ppa.
Thanks Olivier

Program works again, but still no sound.

Thank you for taking some time to answer, Jonathan. It is indeed fixed in
the last PPA.
