Bug Description

After doing a clean install, from RC, then running update, then enabling the flrx driver and going to OpenGL, it's not possible to go into "General" and "Appearance" menu's. Backing out with escape is the only thing that works.

It's also not possible to do a CTRL-ESC to get the Ubuntu start menu from that position.
This was definitely working in 9.10 beta, after I did a new install using RC, I can not change anything.

Howdy, and thank you for helping to improve Mythbuntu by opening this ticket. Here are a few questions that would be helpful to the maintainers to know:

1. Regarding your "general" and "appearance" menu issue, which themes have you tried this on? Please try more than one.

2. It is possible that your theme install is incomplete or corrupted. Could you please try removing and reinstalling the theme(s)?

3. If that does not resolve the issue, what window manager are you using (xfce / gnome /kde)?

4. You make mention of trying Beta before the RC... did Beta also have the menu issue?

Thanks!

BTW, regarding <ctrl-esc>: it works on my machine - so perhaps this issue is related to the menu issue.

1. Because I can not change anything, this is the new default Terra
theme. I can not make any changes in this situation.
2. I have tried different CD burns and repeated clean installations,
so it must be a combination between the hardware and RC.
3. This is a default install, xfce, no other roles like Kubuntu or the
like were specified. Just default frond/backend.
4. As mentioned, beta had a different theme. I did run into it when
changing to Terra however.

One important mention: I'm not running flrx (why is it called flrx if
it's the ATI driver) but the open source driver. Got confused there.

When I use any of the two "general" or "apperance", I notice a flash
or quick redraw of the screen whenever I press escape.

I tried the ATI fglrx driver now as well, but there's no change.

Actually, nothing in the menu that doesn lead to another level in the menu doesn work. For instance, trying to play music doesnt launch mythmusic. Whether mythmusic actually fires up is hard to say because I cannot do a ATL-TAB or such to do a ps-ef. Guess I can try to get in using ssh.
Another thing that was of no use was to go to mcc and disable (test) enable (test again) all themes. It actually downloaded the themes again. No change.

OK, I can confirm some more things:
1. Things are unchanged after reinstalling 9.10 official release, and obviously burning another CD
2. It is related to fgrlx, as soon as I remove the driver, it goes away.
I will try to disable OpenGL (rely on Qt) to see if that helps.

I can confirm that disabling OpenGL in Mythbuntu is a workaround for this problem. Only problem being that to achieve that I need to unload the driver and reload it.

Thank you for helping to improve Mythbuntu by opening this ticket. I am marking this ticket as confirmed because it appears to have enough information to help the developers understand the problem. It is possible I am wrong and another more experienced triager or developer may adjust the status of the ticket to "incomplete" and request additional information.

Marking incomplete as releases prior to 10.04 are no longer supported. Could someone confirm if this issue is still present on a supported Mythbuntu/MythTV release?
