Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

File sync was not working - simply connected and then disconnected. Connect button in folder view did nothing. Deleted the computer from the online interface and then no computer was authorized. No add computer dialog ever presented after that. removed and reinstalled package, still no option to add my computer.

Same here. Was working fine in KDE with correct dependencies; however upon a fresh install, my web account still had info from a previous install. I deleted that with the intention of adding my computer with the fresh install's credentials. Sadly, Ubuntu One never prompted to add this computer, and so forever is in a "Disconnected" state.

Why in the world is there no manual option from the applet's menu or on the web interface to add computers? Relying solely on the app to present it to you obviously has its flaws.

According to the install instructions:

"A web page will launch after clicking Ubuntu One in the previous step (see the image below). Simply click on 'Add this Computer'."

I never saw that web page. Maybe I closed it by accident without noticing. In any case I haven't been able to coax the app into presenting it again.

There really, REALLY needs to be a manual option for this.

After some further fiddling around and about to give up I quit the software and re-opened it and this time it triggered the add-computer page.

Would be nice to see a manual option for those having trouble. It would have saved me a morning of frustration.

I found what my issue was: I don't use NetworkManager. Upon launching "ubuntuone-client-applet" from the terminal, I saw the output:

ERROR:dbus.proxies:Introspect error on org.freedesktop.NetworkManager:/org/freedesktop/NetworkManager: dbus.exceptions.DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.NetworkManager was not provided by any .service files

Which led me to this launchpad post: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntuone-client/+bug/452575

Apparently, Ubuntu One requires NetworkManager.

Here are the problems with this:

1) The Ubuntu One package does not pull in or warn that NetworkManager is a dependency.
2) I replace NetworkManager with wicd on every (K)Ubuntu install, which has far less issues imho.
3) Still no manual way to add a computer via the applet or through the web interface is going to cause problems for people with setups like me, or even like the above, when NetworkManager *is* installed.

Solution:

Allow for manual adding of computers.

Same problem here, #10 didn't work for me.

I've installed ubuntuone on 9.04, I could work for a time but after some day I was'nt able to connect so I've upgraded to 9.10 today, reinstalled all ubuntuone with a fresh install and still can't connect. So I'vre tried to delete this computer, check again, no "add this computer" button, tried to resintall, I tried #10, still no results.

I think there is a workaround for this problem as I believe it's related to bug 455544 which occurs when the bandwidth preferences are set to the defaults. If you delete ~/.config/ubuntuone/syncdaemon.conf and restart the Ubuntu One client, you should be able to connect.
