Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

After upgrading to Karmic I can no longer activate the middle mouse button by tapping in the top right corner of the touchpad. This worked fine in Jaunty. The right mouse button continues to be accessible in the bottom right corner.

Same problem on a different laptop (asus a9rp), did "sudo synclient RTCornerButton=2" and it worked again, however I have to do that every time I start a session.
In the same way, hitting the touchpad with two fingers now acts as right clicking, three acts as middle clicking, which was reversed under 9.04. This can also be solved with "sudo synclient TapButton2=2 TapButton3=3" but, again, you have to do it on every startup.

I added the following line to /etc/sudoers:
dirk ALL = NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/synclient
where you of course have to exchange dirk with your username.
Then you can put
synclient RTCornerButton=2
e.g. into your ~/.profile file, and you don't have to worry about entering it every time after startup.

you can copy /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/20thirdparty/11-x11-synaptics.fdi to /etc/hal/fdi/policy/11-x11-synaptics.fdi and add your synaptics options there, for example:
<merge key="input.x11_options.RTCornerButton" type="string">2</merge>
