No Mouse-Button Reverse Option for Touchpads

I cannot properly or easily navigate. The left-hand mouse button fix (#27724) has left those using a touch-pad without an effective way to reverse or graphically assign mouse buttons.

I have no left-button on my touch-pad, it was destroyed. Since it is permanently affixed the following solutions may work:

1) Separate Reverse Option
2) Assign Buttons or Keys for Mouse Buttons or Axis
3) Option to use all buttons as the ONLY button (Remap to left, hold to right-click)
4) Reverse changes made in bugfix #27724

If anyone else has a better idea, or can point me in the direction of how to "painstakingly manually" fix this (ex. nano /etc/mousesettings?) I would appreciate it until we can reach a solution.

Hi, I had a similar problem: I wanted to configure the buttons for single finger tap differently from the default which isn't possible as gnome-settings-daemon has the tap button configuration hard-coded and overwrites anything configured via xorg.conf, hal, udev, etc.

This is a problem which seems to create considerable confusion. Several others have reported this before, see among others <https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/457622> or <http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1322497>.

I've created a simple patch that allows button configuration via gconf-editor (see attachment). This is a solution that can easily be built upon in gnome-control-center, if sombody likes to provide a more accessible front-end.

The gconf settings to be set are:
/desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/tap_to_click_(rt|rb|lt|lb)

It would be great if you could include this patch into the next release, either here or upstream.

Thank you for your work and sorry it got sitting there for so long, the patch doesn't apply to GNOME3 which is using gsettings, do you think you could update and perhaps send it to GNOME as well?
