When playing a movie the sound is constantly cut or interrupted by miliseconds, then it continues, but repeatedly it gets interrupted again.

Please make sure that you're using the pulseaudio output for VLC.

Ok, that solved the problem, but shouldn't VLC on Ubuntu be configured to use that pulseaudio option by defect???...

I'll upload a patch later that will increase the score of the pulseaudio
output plugin. That should make vlc use pulseaudio by default...
