Bug Description

Hello,

I have a confused screen (see .JPG-attachment) after suspend to RAM in ubuntu 9.10 x86.
Notebook: Fujitsu Siemens Computers AMILO Pro V2010

My last apt-get update; apt-get upgrade was 20 minutes ago.

Before Wednesday or Thuesday (perhaps since the new ubuntu logo at startup), I don't had any terminal with Ctrl+Alt+F?. There was a confused screen before suspend, too.

You can see at the confused screen (.JPG FILE!): "Report a bug Mozilla Firefox)

Addon:
If the notebook is idle the GDM screensaver (no user is logged in) looks confused, too.
At first the colors not so penetrative(darkbrown, like the normal background from GDM), the Attachment shows the third screensaver (after mouse moves), and this one is penetrative (white black).

It could be that the confused screensaver uses colors from the GDM Background there ist with in the near of the username, and brown at the background...

Look at the Picture: The mouse ist normal

After an mouse move, the GDM looks normal

So, now I have installed the new openchrome driver...

STEPS:
svn checkout http://svn.openchrome.org/svn/trunk openchrome
cd openchrome
./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr
sudo apt-get build-dep xserver-xorg-video-openchrome
./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr --enable-debug --enable-xv-debug
make
checkinstall
REBOOT in rescue mode
apt-get remove --purge xorg-xserver-video-openchrome
dpkg -i openchrome_0.2.904-1_i386.deb (on root shell - "rescue" system in GRUB)
reboot
SUSPEND TO RAM

Strg+Alt+F1--> corrupted screen like confused screen (IMG_0549.JPG) see above
Strg+Alt+F7 GUI --> works

Copied the attached log files from /var
lspci -vvnn >> lspci.txt
dmesg >> dmesg.txt

(essentially)

NOTE: With the vesa driver 640x480 the error doesn't occurs after SUSPEND TO RAM.
It is possible to use the vesa driver with 1024x768?

Best regards,

Stefan Koch
-------

P.S.: 1 or 2 months ago: there was a confused screen on STRG+ALT+F1 (without SUSPEND, normal boot) -> shell(gnome-terminal) in GUI (gnome) is ok

Today are at startup the following messages:
[ 1.081067] ehci_hcd 0000:00:10.3: can't setup

But that was any hours ago, yet I have onle the Invalid _PSS data error...

My ubuntu revision is ubuntu 9.10, the latest update concerning this update was at 2009-11-09

Note: the diffused screen changes when you open an other program as firefox (you see an other name). The diffused screen is only a very very bad copy of the X-server-screen. At shutdown, I think the messages are visible, but NOT when shutdown the x-server (/etc/init.d/gdm stop). After the gdm stop the diffused screen is still visible, whithout the "Mozilla Firefox" or "..." mark.

But when you press now the POWER-Button of the Notebook, the spash-screen is correct, and a quick time before HALT you can see some messages (perhaps after the splash is terminated)

After the system boots and you log in to gdm and see your desktop, try CTRL+ALT+1

Now, with vga=791 the fontsize of the terminal is smaller (a.e. from 20 to 10pt --- before suspend to RAM).

AFTER suspend to ram (Strg+Alt+F1) I could enter something to the terminal, and see it (without vga=791) I couldn't recognize some entered from the terminal.

But now the display is divided in two sections the TOP-section is once more divided -> Into two paralell TERMINALS. the DOWN-section shows the half desktop.

The entered text into the terminal appears on the left and the right terminal.

Now I will test the PATCH.

Look into the two attachments for more details. the first attachment shows the hole display, and the twice a bit from the therminal (it's after suspend GREEN).

NOTE: If I get back to gnome open a window, move it into the DOWN-part, I will see it again on STRG+Alt+F1 (see third attachment)

Best regards

Stefan Koch

The same is no problem after suspend to RAM.

But note: this is a special install of ubuntu 10.10 I have not installed it on the laptop's HDD, I have done this with an other computer (with ATI Graphics), on this other computer I installed 10.10 to CompactFlash-Card with USB-CardReader. And I have boot it on this other computer, too. And installed the newest updates there.
And then I have used this installation on the laptop.
NOTE: It could be, that the ubuntu bootscreen is another one(other resolution, ...) as when I installed it on the laptop's HDD.

Booting 10.04 on laptop: ubuntu LOGO will be shown
Booting 10.10 on laptop with USB-Card-Reader: only the text "ubuntu 10.10" without logo will shown (+ any text messages)
