Bug Description

Ive been noticing an increased memory use in xorg 7.4 for karmic.
It currently uses 221mb, which is way higher than xorg in jaunty.
is there any way the memory use can be lowered?

Why has this been marked as invalid. I have found the ATI driver seems to either be leaking, or eating far too much RAM on my 4Gb system (to the point where it swaps a lot under load). Installing the ATI driver via envyng-core resolved my memory issues. Clearly the default binary blob shipped seems to have some issues still.

test if it still occurs on Lucid?

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.
