Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-desktop-environment

I'm french and I was used to (in breezy) to change my locales like this http://moosebox.over-blog.com/article-1304668.html. Every was working well.

Now in Dapper, it seems not to work the same. So I used this method http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=29075 (you can read this : "Merci !
en effet dans le répertoire /var/lib/locales/supported.d/ il y a deux fichiers : en et fr

virez le fichier en et mettre
fr_FR@euro ISO-8859-15
fr_FR ISO-8859-15
dans le fr (commentez les autres lignes)

dans /etc/environment
LANG="fr_FR"
LANGUAGE="fr_FR"

puis
sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales et hop!

Encore merci !")

This method work for the files in nautilus (no more "?" into the file names), but many words disappear in gnome's menus. There is no problem in kde or xfce.

By the way, is this method http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=29075 the correct one for dapper ? It is written :

Delete the "en" file in the /var/lib/locales/supported.d/ directory, then,

add fr_FR@euro ISO-8859-15
fr_FR ISO-8859-15 in the "fr" file

then, tape : sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales

Thank you.
