Bug Description

In my work, i have to work in iso-8859-1 to be compatible with the rest of the world...

Thanks for your bug. confirmed using fr_FR@euro. If that was working before dapper that's probably due to the language pack changes for it. Martin, any idea on that?

Looks like this and bug 37814 having a common problem - some menus are not displayed under non-UTF-8 locale.

@Sebastien: I don't have any idea off the top of my head, sorry. This requires a thorough debug session, I'm afraid

   * debian/patches/001_gettext_desktopfiles.patch: If we get a translation
     with gettext(), convert the string to UTF-8. This fixes empty labels in
     the panel menu, and probably some other things. Closes: LP#29640

Bingo!
