Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

When playing any music file, the 'What a Goom!' visualizations freeze upon seeking within the file. When the next file starts to play, or when manually skipping to the next file, the visualization continues.

I have tested this with FLAC and MP3 files, where it appears with perfect reproducibility.

No settings were altered, and no other visualization plugins were installed. The installation was done using Karmic Alpha-5, with all updates as of today.

Dear Sebastien,
The application does not crash. It's only that the visualizations freeze until the next track - please try it for yourself. Open totem and play any file. Then, seek within the file to another position and check whether the visualizations still continue to be displayed. If your version behaves any like mine, the image should freeze immediately.

This error is perfectly reproducible for me, I reproduced this on any computer I tried.
Just open "/usr/share/example-content/Ubuntu_Free_Culture_Showcase/InTheCircle.oga" which is supplied as an example on install disk, with totem, and seek. The visual effect will freeze, and it's not necessarily GOOM. The same happens with any of them: libvisual, Monoscope.

Confirming this one. Seeking causes the visualization rendering to freeze. However, Totem does not crash and audio continues to play. Whenever playback is restarted (either by stop/start/reopen/next-track,etc), the visualization restarts and works (until next seek).

any visualization freeze on any music file seek, been here for too long and nobody who is a programmer cares? what bunch of shit is the community support for linux. Would love to have some vizualizations at the party. But nooo, just stupid freeze, not to mention theres no real viz for 64bit linux at all, Totem viz are shit.

Hi! Just to agree with the above, I am in the same position as Øyvind Stegard - not permanant freeze, just until a new song is loaded (whether selected by me or loaded automatically from a playlist). Selecting the same song from the playlist or dragging back to the start of the song doesn't unfreeze but it is just the visuals.

For me it looks like this bug is fixed in Lucid RC. Can anybody else confirm this?
