When shutting down computer does not turn off

A few lines appear on the screen saying is is trying to halt, then a cursor appears and just blinks. Acer 4730z laptop running 9.10

This issue looks like a problem related to ACPI instead of gnome-power-manager. Have you tried to run some instructions from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingACPI? Thanks in advance.

I just completely reloaded the operating system again and it works fine,
