Bug Description

When I upgrade to 1.7.0 on my Intel C2D MacBook (2nd gen) with OS X 10.5.8 I'm told that I cannot open Mixxx because it's not supported on this architecture, but when I run it directly from the DMG there's no such problem..?

This screenshot illustrates the weirdness: http://tr.im/AYMk - the Mixxx 1.7.0 that is running was started from the DMG, while the error message is produced by the one I dragged from the DMG to /Applications/Audio (where it replaced a previous installation) and double clicked. There is nothing in Console — I mean, absolutely nothing — but let me know if you need anything else.

Hello,

Can you please try this alternate package for Mixxx 1.7.0 and let us know if the problem persists?

This package comes directly from the person that built the official 1.7.0 build. I modified his .zip file and turned it into a .dmg when we released it on mixxx.org. We're trying to figure out if I somehow messed that up.

Thanks,
Albert

Thanks for the effort, but unfortunately no luck with the ZIP either. It still refuses to start giving the same architecture-error as the one from the DMG.

The weirdest thing is that I can run Mixxx from the DMG, but not once I drag it to my harddrive.
I recall when installing Leopard I had the choice between 2 different types of HFS+ file systems — one that was case-sensitive and one that wasn't. Being partial to *nix I chose the case-sensitive version, but I don't think it was the default option. This has given me problems with another program as well, where it was looking for files in ~/Library/FirstClass, but only created ~/Library/firstclass during installation.

I don't know if that has anything to say in this matter, but I thought I'd just mention it. According to Finder's "Get Info" my Mac partition is of the format: Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled).

Is there anything I can do to help solve the problem? (I know how to debug with gdb, strace and friends, but I'm kinda helpless regarding debugging on OS X — except for using Console of course.)

Hi Anders,

Thanks for testing the ZIP.

One last thing to try before I make you dig into the console: Can you
try deleting your existing "Mixxx" bundle from /Applications/Audio,
then putting the new one in there?

(Mixxx stores it's library and user preferences in your home
directory, so deleting your Mixxx bundle shouldn't erase your
settings.)

I think "overwritting" the bundle has mucked things up since some of
the files that are in our Mixxx bundle may have changed cases. In that
case, you may have ended up with two copies of some files (some
capitalized, some not).

Thanks,
Albert

Already tried removing the old Mixxx.app first, but to no avail. Just
tried again for the sake of it, but with the same result.

Also, I tried removing ~/.mixxx, removing /Applications/Audio/Mixxx.app
and re-installing — still no luck.

I tried installing on my external drive (FAT32, which is inherently
case-insensitive) and it works fine. Also, I can see that the DMG is
formatted as HFS+ (case-insensitive), which may be why I can run it from
both the DMG and my external drive, but not my internal case-sensitive
HFS+ partition.

As I said, I don't know if this whole case-sensitivity thing is a
dead-end or not, but it's starting to look like it may actually be the
problem.

Hi Anders,

I know this is a quite old bug, but could you give our latest release (1.9.0) a try? It's available on http://mixxx.org

Thanks,
RJ Ryan
