Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in _nv001647X()

Crash probably because of the nvidia binary drivers, but maybe the report is useful anyway...

Was just doing normal app usage, working with Evolution, and Xorg dissapears, dumping me to a terminal.

It keeps crashing and it is really annoying.

Other symptoms: Ctrl-Alt-F1 shows garbage.

I have a Geforce GTX260.

I am also affected by this bug. I was just innocently working in Firefox when nasty old xorg went and killed my computer. Please, stop the horrible murder that xorg is inflicting upon my computer.

Yep, similar situation here. Actually, I walked away and when I returned I was greeted by my login screen.

I had firefox open with 8 tabs on a 2gb AMD64 system which I upgraded to ubuntu 9.10 (from 9.04) yesterday. Suddenly (the first time I've seen such a terrible bug in Linux) the screen went kaboom and I was thrown at the command prompt. However before I could login, X restarted and I could login again.

Weird.
Hope this issue will be resolved.

I have random crashes of my ubuntu (9.10 ) system (also with the previous release 9.04)

In the previous crash today, a similar message appeared but caused by 'nautilus' instead of 'npviewer.bin'
because the crashes restart my x-server each time, the bug might be related to the proprietary nvidia driver.
I use the most recent nvidia driver 185.18.36 (during the previous crashes I used the driver I installed myself by downloading from the nvidia website; during the latest crash I was using the driver provided by the ubuntu repository, installed by the restricted driver manager)

after the previous crash (caused by nautilus) and restart of X, I was even logged in as 'root' instead of the normal user account I was using before the crash.

Same here.

Dual monitor, laptop screen went "liney" (this is normal when X is shutting down), console login appeared on external monitor. It was there long enough for me to enter userid and password but before I got a command prompt it had restarted X and I had the crash detection icon in the dock.

I was just deleting some files on nautilus when Xorg crashed and I was thrown to a command line asking me for my login info. After entering my password and hitting the enter key, I was presented with the login screen, so I entered my password again, and then I was in, but it was a new session.
