Do you have this problem if you don't run the linux rt kernel? There have been documented problems with it in the past.

I only have the rt kernel, not the generic one. How can i install the
generic kernel and try it out?

This hasn't happened with any packages except openoffice.org-emailmerge.
The big problem is that when I try to update/install anything else, it
will try to upgrade the emailmerge package and then freeze. I don't
really care about installing or using emailmerge, i just want to be able
to upgrade other packages and install new packages.

I just tried installing the generic kernel and i think it installed.
After installing, it jumped right back into the emailmerge update and
froze. I then manually shut down my compter, restarted it and tried to
load the generic kernel, but there was no generic kernel to
select...only the rt kernel. This is pretty frustrating and i'm hoping
to find a way out of this trouble.
