I don't know whether or not it is related, but I happen to be having trouble with the device in question; Network Manager usually fails to list any networks, and on the rare occasion that it does, it lists only my neighbor's network. Jared Klingenberger (itsjareds) wrote :

I can help you fix both of these problems in one fell swoop because I just installed my rt2870sta-based wireless card yesterday.

To get Internet access, you must blacklist the rt2800usb driver. This allows the rt2870sta driver to work. You won't get any of those error messages anymore because the module isn't being loaded.

I actually was just having issues with the 'driver already registered, aborting...' messages as well, and I just fixed it. I had entered 'rt2870sta' to the end of my /etc/modules file and this ended up being the problem. Remove any entry for 'rt2870sta' from your /etc/modules and those related error messages should disappear.

Still having error with the 2.6.31-14-generic kernel in 9.10 Tried this many, many times. Even tried this with 9.04 - does not work here. Network manager can see "some" networks (not my WPA2 one though), but can connect to NONE of them.

Again, like so many others, rt2870 is not working still...was hoping that 9.10 would address this.

Hi Dieter,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 441303

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
