Installing nvidia video drivers causes unbootable system.

I installed the nvidia graphics drivers. On restart no graphics appear, just sentences about the boot up process. Then it stalls.

It happens to me too. It took same time a bunch of re-installations to figured this out. This doesn't happen with version 173 of the driver.

I didn't notice this report is for Jaunty. My problem is with Karmic. The correct report for me is https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-180/+bug/421442

Btw, we have a lot of bug reports about problems booting nvidia, so it may be that you are seeing a dupe of one of those.
